this isnt a movie but if any of you are familiar with the show "the twilight zone"(the older better version), there is a episode about a evil doll. I first saw it when i was about 5 and i still remember it because i had a doll that looked just like that in my room..... also the stepford wives, its not a very scary movie, there are no monsters of any sort, but the idea of the movie is really scary. just like soylent green.....

Hey L of the L - I really like the old TZs too! I remember that episode - the doll was Talking Tina and starred Telly Savalas (with hair!). I liked the creepy line:

"My name is Talking Tina . . . and I'm going to kill you!".

Here is the IMDB info on Telly Savalas for that episode:

"Twilight Zone, The" (1959) playing "Erich Streator" in episode: "Living Doll" (episode # 5.6) 1 November 1963.

That one was pretty creepy! The SCI-FI channel had TZs on all day on Friday, though I didn't see that episode.

I really hope that was a sarcastic remark to the movie "The Ring".

That was easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I actually liked THE RING - up to a point, then I found it kind of lame.

I can't remember the last good scary movie I saw. Either I'm too old and don't scare anymore or it's a difficult genre to succeed in!

With any movie, the viewer's mood has a lot to do with how it is perceived. I normally hate thriller type movies, but I went to a latenight showing of the ring, it was a large deserted theatre (not a cineplex), and I guess I was in the right mood, because I really liked it. I was genuinely scared on many occasions. I remember back in the day, I also thought Deceived was scary -- especially because it's only pg-13. But, I claim no authority on scary movies (other than the comedy spoofs Big Grin ).

I have to agree with the whole mood scenario-- I had heard that the Ring was such a scary ground breaking flick, and so I set myself up for a scary night. I guess over preparing myself made me realize that this film wasn't scary at all in my opinion, I am curious to see Ringu the original asian folklore film which The Ring is based off of, I have a feeling that it may be a bit better. Anyone seen it ?

ANother problem I had with the Ring was the movie that killed them after viewing it. I know there was a big mystery behind it's origins and it was a main factor for the plot, but I had seen soo many better experimental films, that this one just seemed cheesy. And I don't know if that movie in the ring was suppose to be portrayed as experimental, but it had the feel that it wanted to be one, but it was missing something.

I think those are both good posts. I found parts scary, but it was missing something.

I also liked THE OTHERS. It was a bit slow in places, but I liked the camera work so that you didn't know if something was going to jump out of the shadows or not. That had a bit of creepiness to it.

Maybe not. If you don't like being scared and you know what scares you, then you can probably make some decent scary scenes that could scare others!

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is a freaking creepy movieand it's not suppose to be...same with Dark Crystal and babes and Toy Land..all creepy kid movies. I hate those worse than real scary movies...kinda like "really" Christain type people who look like they are dead, with no expression and rat like hair.

Hmm...I'll probably get blasted for that last comment..oh well.

Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

I don't understand why everyone is so afraid of "The Ring." Maybe if it was made like 10 years ago when VHS was in its heyday then it might be scary but I mean come on... Smile

But seriously, it was not in the least bit suspensful since I had seen the japanese version first (probably one of the few people in america who did). The japanese version isn't scary so much as moderately creepy. The best part about the japanese version is that what seems to be the climax is SUCH a let down that you think you hate the movie...until the little biatch CLIMBS OUT of the friggin' TV set. Really, a cool ending. It's a shame they had to hollywoodise it instead of releasing the japanese version in america.

Also, for some reason they CHANGED the origin of the little girl in the american version...to what end?
