| Hard drive based camcorders used to be terrible, but they are getting much better, especially in instances such as the JVC Everio line. You see the use of HD's in better cameras as well, but usually as add-ons (Firestore, etc). It has its advantages: drag-and-drop of video files (which can save time), reduced amount of stuff to carry, don't have to keep track of tapes.
Some people still choose MiniDV, though, for a couple of reasons. First, it's a proven and reliable format. Also, many like to have hard copies of their footage, as hard drives on both computers and cameras can fail. With tapes, you always have a backup.
Those are some of the basics. | | | | Posts: 690 | Location: SoCal | Registered: March 20, 2007 |
