Most of movie is in a theater. More specifically on stage. Hence the background is likely to be black throughout the movie. Now I can manipluate the lighting a lot with house lights btu does anyone think that a black background could get to be brutually boring and not visual?

Not necessarily. There are ways to manipulate the black curtain (or whatever it is in the background) using creative lighting. Experiment with lighting, both on characters and the background, and your focus. I'm sure there are countless ways to keep it interesting.
