they've both turned into sell outs, with those two Focker movies and Hide and Seek and then Pacino with The Recruit and SIMONE. Come to think of it the sole performance of De Niro's that stands out to me is that American Express commercial he did, at least that's what my generation will always think of him as.

Yeah, both suck now. Pacino was good in Scarface, and De Niro was excellent in Raging Bull, but I tend to think of the latter performance as a function of the director. Certainly neither has continued to work at the same high level.

DeNiro... especially circa 1970-1999 taking into account films such as Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, even Midnight Run - he is a master at his craft.

Pacino has done very well with memorable performances in the Godfather Trilogy, Dog Day Afternoon, And Justice For All..., he is also a master at his craft - but one characteristic has become dominant especially post Scarface. Pacino seems to burst out in an emotional yelling match at the screen, it works well in some instances such as in the Godfather II when Michael Corleone learns of his terminated child and lashes out at Kaye. Unfortunately this becomes repetitive after constant barrage of being yelled at and as such loses it's effect.

DeNiro, while doing not-so-great films, has proven his range 100-fold and thus is the victor here.

How could I forget Deer Hunter? Arguably his best role.

My vote goes to De Niro simply for his single minded devotion to his earlier roles (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Deer Hunder, 1900 etc.). I feel both Pacino and De Niro are masters at their craft.

De Niro. aside from being great in movies like taxi driver and deer hunter, i really liked him as a villain in "The Fan".

I voted for Pacino because I thought he was awesome in Dog Day Afternoon and Carlitos Way. Maybe I havent seen enough of Deniros films though (he was great in Raging Bull)

Kind of one-sided in the end.

Pacino wins for Dick Tracy. DeNiro loses for every movie he's done since 1996.

Really, though, I'd say DeNiro was the better actor in his prime. Pacino always slides into his parts easily, but you're always watching Pacino, no matter the movie. DeNiro possesses (or possessed, I should say) some rare chameleonic mien that allowed him to absolutely become whatever character he portrayed.

I still prefer Seinfeld over either of them.

Haha. He was great in that film.

What if we threw Marlon Brando into the mix? Who would people vote for then?
