I’m going to be getting a new PC and want to know how many people prefer AMD and how many prefer Intel? I guess this one excludes all the Apple guys since all the new Macs are Intel.

Well AMD and Intel are constantly one-upping eachother. I have been fairly impressed with the performance of my my AMD CPU (Athlon X2 4400+), so I will stand by AMD. (its hilarious that only 2 years ago when this line of dual core CPUs was introduced this processor was retailing for $580...now I think you can pick up a new one with an offical AMD warranty for probably $75 off of eBay?)

However, I know as soon as Cinematical sees this thread, he is really going to push for Intel.

Well, as of now Intel is really pushing their new Penryn processors, with the first of the bunch already released (e8400 - 3ghz dual core). It is an incredibly fast processor, despite only being dual core.

Something to mention about deciding about quad, dual etc. Not a lot of software can support quad core and it all depends on what you plan on doing with it. Intel at the moment is ahead of the game and with these Penryn processors, they're really upping the ante.

I have built machines with both AMD and Intel processors and have had good results with both. It just seems that Intel is pulling ahead of the game and really putting out some solid processors.

By the way, I'm an Apple guy now but I still keep up my research on the debate between AMD and Intel.

Currently AMD cannot even begin to match Intel on processor efficiency and price. For the same price, you get a better processor with Intel - no exception. AMD has simply delayed their response to Intel's Core-2-Duo line too long and has fallen behind.

Yep...we had a decently sized argument over this a while back. However that was back when AMD and Intel were a little more neck-and-neck in the industry, so my pro-AMD argument was fairly valid.

Now, however, I will admit that Intel has really pulled ahead (for now).

I just don't see how AMD can get back in the game after delaying Phenom over and over - that CPU was only meant to mach Core-2-Duo, and it's been delayed so many times.
