tommorow i'm spending a large portion of the day driving about boston and filming outdoors in multiple places.

the specs for my zr40 say it will opperate between 32 degrees and 140. it's going to be about 15 degress tomorrow.

any suggestions? will anything bad happen to my tape or camera? i'll only be outside for about an hour at a time.

also, will condensation occur when i take it back into the warm car?

any tips would be great!

thanks Smile

I'm assuming you don't have a cam-kote or anything like that? I don't have one myself so I try to limit my outdoor shooting. I guess you could try rigging something up, some sort of towel or something wrapped around it. And yes, watch the condensation. I would try to limit the outdoor use and then put it in some sort of case and not use it right away when you get inside. And I wouldn't keep the car hot... try and keep it the same temp as outside... or close to it. I know that sucks but a little discomfort is better than a camera malfunction. Hope this helps.

hmm, Ive filmed with my ZR in late november and it was cold, but I would say lowest 38-48 Degrees when we did it, but YES it worked fine and we went right back and watched tape shortly after. Ive also left my ZR in the car in tempratures below 20 degrees before and worked fine.

OH, and I filmed IN SNOW in december a little over a year ago with a friend and tempraute was around 30 degrees or less since it has just snowed day before and was still very cold.

and have lots of hot cocoa for your cast and crew. happy cast and crew make better movies.

What if you fassion something using those warm pads. Like, wrap it in a towel with a couple instant warm pads? I doknow, just brainstorming.

after i was done with class today, i packed up my gear and rode (yes, i commute everywhere on my bike) to center city to shot some test shots and look for a few new location for a short i wanna make. Before i left my room i didnt realize how cold it was. One thing i did notice was my camera battary seemed to died off a lot quicker. Anyway i got my test shots done but i was freezing to much to look for new spots. I hope your filming went better.

thanks everyone for the suggestions!!!!

bspeed, you shot WHILE skiing? that must have made a dolly shot look a little boring, eh? Wink

everything went fine on the technical side! one camera drop out ruined the best shot of the day, but other than that all our troubles existed in the form of security Mad

anyway... no condensation at all. i used a plastic bag and the car was quite warm which worried me a little.

camera worked fine in temperatures that made the actors hands start bleeding and become unable to dial phone numbers.

all in all, excellent!
