They're not good with battery power at all. The same problem plagues the CD-R digital cameras that Sony and some other companies make. The technology is still rather newfangled.

you also need to research editing mpeg-2 encoded files. Not all apps can (and most can't do it frame acurately).

yea jorens got a real big point there, there was an article in a recent issue of DV magazine discussing this exact problem. Moreover, every second of mpeg2 must be rendered in an NLE, whereas unedited sections of a DV stream do not. Thats a hell of a lot more rendering. (I know premiere does for sure, correct me guys if FCP or avid differ, but i'm almost positive they don't).

Don't forget there's a great deal of compression going on in mpeg2 vs. DV. It seems likely that you will see a difference in quality.
