Hey guys, I have a Sony HDR CX-100. It's great little camera and picks up good quality HD. Im even planning on buying a 35mm adapter for it. The only problem is that it has no Mic input. I want know is there anything i can do to get better audio? Are there any boom mics that record seperatly and then i can just sync the audio and video at post production? please help! thanks

your best bet is to get a separate audio recording device and use a clapper for syncing the sound. I do not know your usage of the camera, but if you're shooting a film, you can probably get your hands a a basic sound recorder, and a separate microphone and use something that has a unique sound (a loud click or whatever) to sync video to audio.

I spent 10 mins looking for any note of an external mic jack, but it is really nonexistant.. Wierd, but whatever, I hope that method will work out for you.

Good luck

I agree. An external recorder is going to give you much better sound than anything you can plug into your camcorder. Those things have pretty terrible sound.
It's a bit of a hassle to synch up the sound and everything, but hey, the professionals have to do it, so you might as well get good at it now.
Clapper boards are about $10 on eBay. Just be sure to get one that actually works. There are a lot of props out there that don't clap.

yea Sony never does spend the time to put a mic jack on their consumer cams....You would be best either upgrading the camera or going for a field recorder to plug a mic into.

A few recorders I suggest looking into are the Zoom H4, Fostex FR-2LE, Korg MR1000, Tascam HD-P2, Fostex FR-2, and Marantz PMD660.

I actually like the Fostex FR-2LE the best as it's affordable and works well.

Simply plug in a shotgun mic and use a clapper board to sync audio and video in post.

If you want to save some money you can buy an SD card recorder for around $200 and use a beachtech adapter to plug the mic into the small 1/8" jack.

Yeah Sony doesn't put mic inputs on their prosumer cameras (gotta go with Canon for that). So really you have pretty much no choice other than to use an external recorder. You may also want to think about how much you're investing in your camera though.

A Portable Field Recorder will run you over $200/300 for a quality one + another $200 or more for a Shotgun Microphone, + $180 - $775 for a 35mm adapter (which covers anything from a JagSt 35mm adapter with 50mm Lense to a Letus35 mini). That's $580 - $1275 or more that you would be buying for your $400 camera.

I agree with the last few posts, get a field recorder and a clapper... and a good shotgun mic if you can afford it.

I know a lot of people with the Zoom, it takes really nice sound. Used it recently for a doco.
