My suitmate has some money to drop on a digital camera....if you had around $3000 dollars to spend which camera would you get? I already gave him my answer, which I'm not going to reveal, I just want other answers and why.

Thanks guys,
Jon Boal

Sharpest camera yet. Ive seen comparisons to a pd150. the image on the 150 looks blurry. Idont really care about the film look. Thats cheesy.

The "film look" is cheesy? How so? I dont get it...

My vote would be for the DVX100 as well. I got mine for under $3,000. Those who havent used it or seen it under production type situations will say XL1, PD-150, GL2, ect. Those who have used it say DVX100. Do some research, did. You can check out footage at www.dvxuser.com and see exactly what this camera can do.

Here are some DVX100 screen grabs from the afore mentioned link. Several differnt examples. Some with anamorphic adapters, and some without

-The XL-1, I am quite bias, but this is what I have done with the XL-1. I also will say the DVX-100, cause it looks like it is an excellent camera!

DVX100.

And Kris, how do you get that blurry look around the edges of that picture?

I took one frame of the shot into photoshop, and blured the edges, then from that example created a mask, and threw it over each frame of the shot

Although every person on this website disagrees with me, I have a heavy preference for the PD150. I think the XL1 and the DVX100 are very poorly designed.

Kris, thanks for the info...man I really need to buy/steal/make my own version of After Effects...I always thought for that effect they slid a glass plate over the lens, but it wasn't touching it, and then smeared vasoline or something like it around the edges.

Weird...
