okay its time for me to get a mic thats better than my camera. i would like something that will work with my panasonic pv dv953, and will probably need a boom pole, so id rather get a package than all this seperately.
anyone know if thats any good and worth the money? or would it be that much better to just spend 200$ on a mic and wait on the boom? i could probably go up to 250-300 if there is a lot better deal. well what do yall recommend?
OK I don't know anything about mics, but a lot of my old screen names on sites used to be AdamTheGreat. Just thought I'd comment on that, not something you see every day.
If you want a mic setup that's better than your camera, you should be prepared to spend more than your camera. The ATR 55 is a 60 dollar mic and sounds like it. Sure, you'd be better off getting a higher quality (more expensive) mic if you can. If you can afford a true condenser mic, I would really recommend that. If electric condenser is all you can afford, I'd go with the AT 897--my new favorite. Better and less money than the me66 and 835b.
But yes, you still need a boom, wind screen, cables, mixer, and monitoring device. Otherwise it would be like driving a BMW with no gas and your eyes closed. ... not much different than a honda civic. You might want to buy that kit just for the accessories. It's easy to spend a thousand on that stuff alone.
The ATR 55 hasnt got a good reputation as far as a mic goes. Have a look at the RODE NTG-2 shotgun mic, or if you have some money to spend have a look at the Sennheiser K6 series.

Actually, I was just looking at that same package. I know the atr 55 is inexpensive, but is it that bad. If I was on a fairly tight budget would it be good enough?

Isn't the Sennheiser a lot more than the azden. Im going with the azden sgm-2x, and spending extra money on a few other things. The sgm-1x is good as far as I know, as long as you need it for something proffesional. The more money you spend, the better the microphone. If you need good quality, go with the azden. If you need better, go with the sennheiser.

I may be incorrect, but the "SENNHEISER MKE300" only has a 1/8 output and the "AZDEN" has a XLR output. It's been my experience that balenced audio (XLR) is always better. Of course, if you went with the AZDEN, you would need either a mini jack to XLR converter or an adapter . I would definatly reccomend the beachtek and AZDEN combo, if you have the cash. Peace
Alright, I was thinking of a different sennheiser. I would go with the azden. If you get the sennheiser you will also need to get a shock-mount, plus it only has a 1/8 plug, and thats never a good sign.
