I'm thinking about shooting at an airpot, kind of like a "day in thel life of" but for an airport. It may sound stupid, but i still want to do it. I was just wondering if an airport is public domain. Im just bringing my gl1 and going around and shoot different things for a couple hours. Nothing big, just something to practice my editing skills. No actors, no help from freinds, no lights, not even a tripod, just me and my camera. Do you think that they would mind/take notice. I mean if its just me and a camera it could just like being a tourist, or are they probably going to flip and im going to kicked out. I was just wondering before started getting stuff together to do it.

you are in jersey - are you thinking of shooting at Newark? If so, there are a number of things thata would lead me to believe thats a bad idea - one big one being that it is run by the port authority, and i am assuming that in a post 911 world they would absolutely take notice. any international airport (and probably most non international) would probably have a fit if they saw you with a regular tourist cam shooting random people and stuff, nevermind with a GL1 and no particular subject (like people in your group).
It was mentioned in a previous thread recently that the worst thing you could do would be bring a tripod because it screams out that you arent just shooting for a trip. Good luck, but i think you'll be escorted out sooner than you can say "student film!"
best case scenario? check with them before hand, see if you can get clearance. I doubt it, and in most cases it probably wouldnt be advisable because it alerts them of your presence before you even get there, but i think you would be stopped anyway so it is worth a shot right?
edit: just found this comment on a message board, but i think he just got lucky - i doubt theyd allow filming and not photography:
"Taking an interest in aircraft wasn't apreaciated either, as we were not allowed to take photographs. However, videofilming was allowed. Newark (maybe just at the moment) is a very passenger unfriendly airport, although I realise that being hijacked is a million times worse."
the airports around here will follow you around to see how much you're shooting and what you're shooting. they could confiscate the tape if they want.
it depends how incognito you are though.if you just sit somewhere and pretend you're messing around with your camera, like checking the settings while waiting for a plane, no one would probably notice.
