Only you cant lug the generator down there with you, unless you all want to drift off into sleep and never wake courtesy of carbon monoxide poisioning from the exhaust fumes. Kyle's smart, genny will be the best option. But you said that's out of the question.
This isn't the most ideal, but I've used propane powered camping lanterns (colman brand) before to light subjects. They're tough to control, but I'm sure with enough black wrap you could get what you need out of a couple of em. Plus, you should be able to white balance off them. And because they're propane, you won't have to worry about "the silent killer." ---well, as much as other hydrocarbons.
