I was recently confronted with the same situation. When you want to use light on location it is basically impossible to do it without a continuous supply of power. If you have a car, the alternative I found is to simply buy (or rent if you can) a power inverter that will transform your car's 12v battery into 120v. These power inverters vary on the amount of output they will give, but I've seen them range from 300 to 1200watts output capacity. The price ranges accordingly. I recently purchased a 400watts power inverter at Walmart for about $48 canadian. About $37 US. Your car battery will not be drained, as long as you make sure the total amount of lights you are using do not exceed the maximum output capacity. Good luck!

A gasoline generator, which you need to be an adult to rent.
Or a big battery unit made to be used with film lights. But that's way more expensive than a gas generator, and they probably wouldn't let you take it out unless you knew what you were doing with it.

Oke, Iam 18 years, so for the law iam a adult (but your are a "real" adult, independent from parents if you are 21, but if you are 18 you are a adult and can buy all the adult stuff, so that includes a generator )
But there are expensive... i find it weird that worklight dont have power them self... because the are mainly used on places whitout power.. were buildings get build etc...
Thanks, Jerry

I know some places in Florida you had to be 24 or older to rent a gasoline generator, just because they don't think you are responsible enough at 18 or 21.

I had the exact same dilemma as you,I needed to power lights away from an outlet, I looked at the pros and cons of a generator...Pro: Lots of power, unlimited use. Con: Very noisy and heavy(You would have to put your generator extremely far from where you are shooting as to not pick it up on your mic). So I decided on a power inverter by Cobra it's 1000watts continuous and peaks at 2000watts it's connected to a car battery I bought, and recharge whenever I shoot. It lasts roughly 1.5 hours depending on the size of the battery, and what amount of power your using on the inverter. I bought it off ebay for 69.99$ U.S. good deal but shipping cost a lot(I live in montreal) Then I bought a car battery for it. An alternative is to buy the setup i've seen at canadian tire, it's very affordable it has wheels and a telescopic handle the rechargeable battery and 1250 watt inverter is already built in!(If I had seen this sooner I would have bought it)
