Looking for sound effect

Im trying to get a sound effect that I don't know the standard term for. It is the sound used to suggest a sudden stop of the film, a kind of 'eeeee' screech type noise. Usually used to comic effect when someone in the film is shocked by something.

Anyone know what to call this sound or where I might get it?

TIA

that's not film, it's called a vinyl record scratch.

look on sounddogs.com and I guarantee you'll find something.

Yeah, it is usually when the music stops, right?

Or you can just search for record scratch on findsounds.com. OR just record it yourself, which is almost always the best option.

Sure you can. Just open and play your plastic-sealed original copy of "Meet the Beatles", click record, and grind that needle into the vinyl! You'll get a great sound that's exactly what you're looking for.

Why would you want to do that to The Beatles?

Screeching car brakes (actually, the screech from the tires) would probably do the job, too. Though it might be dangerous to try recording it yourself.

haha! I've been there before, sorry to bust your bubble. It's a good site but you can't beat the selection and quality of sounddogs...I guess it's the whole "I don't want to spend money" thing that gets people.

And no, that site doesn't have the record scratch.

Haha that's funny funkbomb. I either have the exact same record scratch or something extremely similar, I just could remember where I got it from.

And I bet that was "Meet The Beatles", too.
