I have a Sony DVX-2000 and love it. The 2100 is newer and has some newer stuff on it. I have used the GL2 and thats a nice camera to. You cant go wrong with any of the two.

Although I'm not the biggest fan of the Canon company (I had some bad experiences), I've gotten my hands on a GL2 and thought it was a very nice camera, having used the DCR-VX2000 before I can say that the GL2 will simply look better on TV because of the quality of the lens it has. As for the DCR-VX2100, I'm not sure.
Alright, thanks for the help. I am leaning towards the vx-2000, just because I also film skateboarding to and its a better camera for skateboarding then a gl2 is becausr the gl2's audio for skateboarding is yucky.

the in-camera mics on the VX2000 and the GL2 are equally shi**y. They'll pic up noise from every direction, if you want good sound, you'll need a separate good-quality uni-directional microphone. Audio, not image, is completely independent from these 2 camcorders.
Yes, I am aware that I will need an additional mic. What do you guys think about the vx-1000? I can get it for about $200 cheaper and it has larger ccds then the 2k,21k and the gl2.

the vx1000 is much older technology than the vx2000, i personally would go for the vx2000, the gl2 is also nice, but the vx series is more confortable, well i think it is anyway.

Big ccd's and old technology doesn't make it better. It's newer technology for a reason. The GL2 has half the ccd res. of other comparable cams but it can still take them easily.(Better technology + Canon makes their own lenses whereas sony has them made by somebody else)
