Well, crap. The firewire jack on my GL2 quit on me.

I've tried using different cables and different computers, but I can't get the camera to hook up. So, I looked up the warranty, and wouldn't you know it? It expired not more then 20 days ago.

So, question 1: Can I fix it myself and how?

Question 2: If I can't fix it, where should I take it/ send it to get it fixed?

It could end up being less expensive to buy a super cheap MiniDV cam (solely for the purpose of transferring video to your computer) than to fix the firewire issue in your Gl2.

If you don't mind shipping off your camera here is a Canon/Sony Repair site that I found. Apparently they will give you a free estimate, and if you decide you don't want your camera fixed, they will ship it back to you free of charge. Hm. Worth looking in to? I found a blend of consumer reports about the site.

yeah, I saw that website too when I was fishing around . . . .

don't they make mini DV VCR's that plug into the computer?

just buying a cheap camera is a good idea too.

I didn't realize that the hard drive capture system was so available.

There are much simpler MiniDV players than what I am finding online...I know they are out there and they don't costs $1000 plus. Hmm.

I know . . . I'm not finding much either. I don't need a bunch of bells and whistles, just a tape deck to import off of.
