I was checking out futureshop and JVC offers a JVC Pro tape (MiniDV) claiming higher grade quality picture. Is this actually true? Anyone use both regular minidv tapes (I use Fuji personally) and the JVC Pro Tape? Here's the link check it out : The JVC PRO tape
yeah, I've actually used it. That tape increases resolution by 3 times and automatically gives the video a film look. ... Wait, no it doesn't. MiniDV is a resolution and quality dependent format. All it really can do is reduce dropouts.
I've heard "pro" tapes like these only reduce noise by up to like 3db. But if your not pushing gain (or grain/noise) in the first place, going down a few -3 db of won't be noticable. Think about it, if it's little dark and you have to push +3 gain, do you notice a difference from F2 or zero grain? I really would'nt waste your money. Its like a pro blank CD-R. You'd be better off just to stick to only 1 brand on for your camera, so no dropouts occur.
