I'd try to do it as a practicle effect, like Paul is talking about, with the glue. Doing CG for this kind of thing ends up being harder to get right, and dosn't look as good without significant time and effort. You'd need the shading just right, for the shadows and highlights. It might be possible to have your design printed at a place like Kinko's on card stock, which is thicker, and would be easier to glue on than paper.
