Has anyone seen it yet, or anyone interested in it at all? I'll probably go this week sometime...

I personally didn't really like it. It felt like there was something missing. You expect it to be profound like Schindler's List and Speilberg was clearly trying to make it that way, but it just wasn't. I felt like I was leaving the theater empty-handed, so to speak.

I will see it when it comes out, because Spielberg is my favourite director. It looks really good from the trailer.

I agree with JW - I hated it. As much as I realize the Oscar hype is just that, I still expected something that was compelling and immersive (although maybe sentimental) like Saving Private Ryan. Munich failed as entertainment, and contained no coherent artistic or political statement. Not a good film, in my view.

I loved this movie. I thought it was a great way to start off 2006. Granted, it was a little different than I expected. Maybe it was the modern look and feel of the movie. The acting was superb, but I have to say Eric Bana needed a little work on some of his facial expressions. Other than that, I loved how some scenes were shot, the seamless editing and the overall directing on Spielberg's part. A great movie in my opinion, but truth be told...King Kong had a bigger affect on me. Completley different type of movie, but Kong seemed to draw me in a little more.

See it if you want, but this is the worst kind of thing Hollywood has to offer - it fails as socially engaged or truthful cinema. Just because something isn't 'entertaining' in the popular sense doesn't necessarily mean it's valid or worthwhile either.

Heh, socially engaged and truthful? You must not have seen any of the legitimate masterworks of 20th century film.

Okay. If you don't think that Schindler's List is a "legitimate masterwork," then I respectfully disagree. Hopefully you can at least see that it was better than Munich.

If Schindler's List was not a legitimate masterwork of the 20th century, what was? Just curious to hear your opinion.

A few off the top of my head:

Ikiru
Decalogue - especially part 5, and its extended version (A Short Film about Killing)
Kieslowski's Trois Couleurs trilogy
Stalker/Solaris/Mirror
Harakiri (Seppuku)
The Silver Globe

Finally saw Munich last night, and while I agree it was not as good as Schindler's List (never expected it to be in the first place) it was still entertaining and interesting.

No, just the types of films that don't kick you in the ass, the type pf films that aren't playing at your theatre, that you can't rent by mistake at ur local Blockbuster Video. For some reason art is not a highly demanded aspect in film, and that's why great pieces of it (like the ones forementioned) need to be searched for, if you're interested in seeing/feeling something that isn't formulaic hollywood bull****. It's like finding a good Greek or Italian restaurant as opposed to Macdonalds. Would you call them elitists too?
