Lets pray that 20 years from now they don't make poorly written prequels. . .

As much as I like the Pirates movies, you cannot compare them to Indiana Jones. That's like comparing Knockaround Guys to The Godfather. Please.

I just saw it yesterday and loved it! (How the dude it the Herald Sun can give it one out of five is beyond me). I agree it felt like Indiana Jones and is shaping up to be one of the great movie trilogies of all time.
The special effects were great, and I'm definitely buying the DVD to get an insider's look.
Also, I love the way that there was more after the credits, as in the first one as well, as it almost forces the audience to stick around and pay the respect to the entire cast and crew as they rightfully deserve. It's something that I usually always do on the films I make.
Anyway, overall this film was great, exactly what you go to a cinema to see. I still think Click is the best film I've seen at the theatres so far this year, but Pirates is a close second.

Surprisingly yes. Normally an Adam Sandler film wouldn't have captivated me so much, but for some reason I really enjoyed it and got more out if it than anything else in a long while.

Have you ever noticed that everytime a new action adventure movie comes out, it's considered the next Indiana Jones? I remember that when The Mummy came out, Brennan Frasier (sp?) was called "the next Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones," and I believe the same thing was said about Nicholas Cage in National Treasures, if I remember correctly.

As for POTC, I just saw it last night. I loved it. My only complaint was that it was hard to hear a few lines in the theater, so I am eagerly awaiting the DVD so I can watch it in a more controlled sound environment...I know there were some great lines that I missed.

*spoilers, ye be warned*
The thing I really want to know is, how the hell did Sparrow get in that place (whatever it was) at the beginning? You know there had to be a kick ass sory there. And Barbosa's return...how awesome.

I would go as far to say that Pirates of the Caribbean is the Star Wars of a new generation. Here's some interesting comparisons:

First, it's a trilogy in which the first one stands on its own, but where the sequels work together with it as a trilogy.
Then, there's the characters. There's Luke/Will Turner, the whiny reluctant hero. There's Leia/Elizabeth. Of course, there's the swashbuckling buccanneer character who saves both trilogies with their cynical wit. Han Solo/Jack Sparrow. Darth Vader is whichever baddie you choose, Barbossa or Davey Jones. Doesn't really matter, other than the fact that they both exist as evil captains of surreal crews.
And the locations, of course. Islands/Planets, the Sea/Outer Space, ships/ships, and Tortuga/Mos Eisley.
The rest branches from there in various directions. Themes, swords vs. guns, Empire-Rebellion/East India Trading Company. But the important thing is the alternate universe and the mythological edge.

Interesting, eh?

*SPOILERS*

Something else to add to your list, if you want to make comparisons between the trilogies (regarding the Jack/Han, POTC/ESB comparison): at the end of both films, the survivors are told that there's still a chance to save their friend from fates unknown.

As for Indiana Jones comparisons...I just rememebered something. Did anyone else catch the reference to Jones when Elizabeth goes to reach for her sword (when squaring off against the two pirates with the chest), and realizing that it isn't there, the only thing she can do is sheepishly smile? (a la Temple of Doom?). Or, perhaps I read too much into it.

I thought it was entertaining, but a bit too long. I also found the "Octopus Head" a bit cartoonish, but overall it was a fun movie to see.

I certainly (in my opinion) compare it to INDY JONES movies (except the crappy TEMPLE OF DOOM!).

It's definitely worth seeing though.

As for CLICK, I too enjoyed that movie. I thought the over-the-top performance by Christopher Walken was great!
