So, I'm in the process of setting up a little home theater--110" high def front projection screen with 5.1 dolby dts THX cert. surround system.
But, most of the DVDs I own won't be very good at testing the system (i.e. good surround sound separation, etc). So, I'm looking for recommendations on films that have great images and excellent dolby soundtracks. Spider man, LOTR, matrix. Those kind of films and the less mainstream ones. What films should I check out?

Saving Private Ryan made good use of surround sound. It's unfortunate that many films don't - Windows for some reason decided to switch my soundcard to 2-channel output, and it took me 3 months to notice (when I tried to watch SPR).

Too bad spiderman 2 was not out yet, that had some of the best sound Ive heard in a while.
You can't go wrong with a war film. I just got surround sound as well, and the matrix was great on it. What about the star wars trilogy or the indiana jones trilogy they are thx?

Yeah, get the new Star Wars DVD set. I hear they went back and massively enhanced the sound. So if you set it up right you can hear that Tie Fighter come from behind, hear a trooper on teh left fire and hear a guy on the right die. It will be great!
