So I saw it last night at the midnight showing (what can I say?)...and you know what? I was pretty darn entertained. I didn't go in expecting much from a movie based on toys and GM cars and directed by Michael Bay, but darnit, it was fun. There were some disapointments - namely, the uber-conry lines given to the Autobots, and the rather schizophrenic tone the movie took (one moment you had the vocal choir making the 'bots and their war seem epic, even cosmic, and most definately cool, and the next moment the tongue-in-cheek jokes and dialogue completely level that tone). Still, despite how flawed it was (and it WAS flawed), I couldn't help but feel a kind of boyish excitement. Several times the film made the kid in me grin from ear to ear.
I definately enjoyed this movie far more than any of the other big blockbusters this year.
Look, it's Nostolgiatron!

I generally hate Michael Bay, but I've heard this movie was really a lot of fun from several people including you now. I'll probably go check it out. quote: And apparently they just got a green light to make 2 more. God, does everything have to be a trilogy?

I know! I really hope they don't wreck this movie with a trilogy. I just came back from a late night showing and I thought it was incredible. I definitely noticed the flaws, but in all seriousness...the kid in me was grinning ear to ear and I couldn't even concentrate on the direction or anything technical really. I did notice some cliched lines, some bad cuts, some inconsistency - but it was a fun movie and I recommend it as a must see for summer '07. -Kegan EDIT: I've got a question Larry - I've been a member of this board for a couple years now and I, like everyone else has seen you post your useless anti-world topics and posts. Why are you so bitter? I really wish I could be a complex, arrogant, pompous jackass like yourself to be able to understand your thought process in the world of technology and film making. I apologize to the mods as this is probably going to get flagged as flaming, but it had to be said. Larry just doesn't EVER have anything positive to say. Once or twice he's sparked good conversation, but for the most part, he's whiny, annoying and just plain bitter. You may ask why I've said anything at all after having ignored you for the two years that I've been here. Fact of the matter is, you need a wake up call man - maybe you won't get it from this post, but why do you continue to plague this board with your garbage. To be quite frank, it's spam...but with an opinion.

This movie was boring. Michael Bay is most absolutely a joke and a hack. However, let's not forget the two jerk-offs responsible for the screenplay. Namely, the same two jerk-offs responsible for the last Zorro abomination. I'm at a loss. I don't know what it is when you have to grow up because the last little bit of your childhood whimsy was just sucked out of you. What do I do now, buy a suit and become an accountant? I'm angry I gave Michael Bay my five bucks, but figured that I should back up all of my pre-emptive *****ing by actually watching the thing. My god, that was a terrible movie. elliott (otiose)...

You want a long rant? Okay then. If his works didn't speak volumes enough about this, I guess I'll explain myself. How about he's a guy that does put special effects over story when you shouldn't have to make a compromise. Two directors, Cuaron and Cameron, surely don't believe you have to. Now, you may say that they can't all be Caurons and Camerons, well, if that's the case then maybe they shouldn't be given the big ****ing movies where story and special effects should ****ing come into play. Or, how about the fact that Bay is now in a long line of directors who alienated the very fanbase which created the want for such a movie. Or, the fact that Michael Bay shoots so low to the ground you never really get a good idea about the scope of things. The robots may have been tall, but their presence wasn't anymore intimidating than a tall building. Look, as a fan of the series, I know that without out a shadow of a doubt that I could've made a Transformers movie infintely better than this jerk-off. But, he did such a piss poor job that I'm convinced my own sister could've made a better movie. This may have been "the most exciting summer movie" to some of you, but, so what. Was it exciting enough to own when it comes on to DVD? Will you remember it as an awesome movie after all of this discussion has died down? Was it even cool enough that you'll go and buy one of the toys? That's what's wrong with Michael Bay. This movie could have and should have been so much more. What's worse, it's already made enough to ensure that Michael Bay and every other schmuck involved with this crapfest will continue to make more, and probably worse, pieces of bile. End rant, of which you asked for. elliott (otiose)...

I think Bay makes entertaining movies, but I've heard that he's hard to work with. I know an AD who worked on Bad Boys II, and I actually talked to Shia LaBeouf the day after I saw Transformers, and they both told me that he puts his crew and actors through a lot of difficulty and is often unreasonable and short-tempered. Not to mention, he uses about 10 or 15 different units shooting at the same time, so I question how much actual directing he does.

I liked the movie, I'm buying it on DVd, and I'm thinking about getting one of the toys to sit next to my computer so I can play with it when stuff is rendering. This isn't the best movie that came out in all time, but there are A LOT worse. It does the audience good to get a special effects spectacle every now and then. if everything was drama and blah blah blah, cinema would be very boring. Sometimes, I want to throw down 7 bucks and just watch stuff blow up . . . and if its giant robots doing it, so much the better.

That doesn't sound too bad at all after watching a few video clips of the I Heart Huckabees director whose name is completely out of my minds grasp at the moment. Thats interesting though, because in his pictures he looks like a suave easy-going guy.

Whatever, I understand wanting a fun summer movie, but as far as everything's concerned, it wasn't even that. Live Free or Die Hard was more fun and it didn't even have giant robots, there's something wrong with that. I don't know what more I can even say, I traditionally love giant transforming robots, explosions, and even a car chase, except when Michael Bay does it, I guess. The guy's just a tool, especially according to JW's comments, through and through. elliott (otiose)...
