Has no one seen this? Pirates of the Caribbean is about the best movie I've seen in a long long long time. Wow it was amazing and I didn't even really want to see it. Jonny Depp could grab the attention of a hungry dog with a ADD and a bone and hold it for as long as he pleased...that guy has so much charisma it's unbelievable.
YOU SHOULD ALL GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
Besides filming, the only other thing I ever did good was filming.

Just saw it and loved it! One of the best movies this year, so far. If you didn't stay for the end of the credits, you should do so. A little surprise at the end!

Depp's been in Blow - that drug movie with Ponelope Cruz, and quite a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head. He's a good actor. He belongs in the business; not like some lately who can't act worth a damn.

Eh it doesn't matter. I've been alone in a lot of my opinions. That being said:
LAME!
What an annoying movie. It seems like the plot of this thing was only there to tie together all of the silly gags and one-line quips that were thrown in. Way WAY more comedy than was necessary. I probably wouldn't have minded all those gags quite as much had it not been for the annoying lady cackling loudly at every single one of them sitting a few rows in front of me. (Personally, I'm against murdering people, but had something happened to her during the course of that movie watching experience, I might not have minded...)
But that's beside the point. The movie was stupid. It was trying to have all this goofball comedy yet still be a respectable action / drama. Pick a genre and stick with it.
And there's a giant fight sequence towards the end between mortal people and immortal people. Why am I watching that? The immortal people keep not dying. That thing drug out much longer than it should have been. He stabs the skeleton guy, The skeleton guy doesn't die. Skeleton guy stabs mortal person. He dies. Repeat for ten minutes.
Also, what was the deal with the distraction that the ghosts sent out? The navy fleet is out in the middle of nowhere and the ghosts send two guys dressed like ladies to go rowing in the middle of the fog. The ENTIRE NAVY stares at them while the rest of the ghosts board the ship from the rear entrance. ...What?
And as for Depp, he wasn't bad. But he wasn't brilliant like some people said. He was adequate. He played an over-the-top character in an over-the-top way. That's a lot easier than playing a realistic character in a realistic way.
For those who have yet to see Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas....do so now. That movie truly shows the talents of both Depp and Benecio del Toro, and it's directed by Terry Gilliam, can't go wrong with that combo.
I admire Depp because he shows true range in what he does. He never takes on the same type of role more than once and each time you see him in a movie, he completely disappears into his character. A wonderful actor, and terrfic in Pirates of the Caribbean, which I thought was great as it felt like a true summer movie. No philosophical garbage, just popcorn fun.
We can't stop here, it's bat country!

It's one of the best Disney movies I've ever seen. I have a nitpick about it though
**WARNING** Watch the movie before you read the following.
In the scene where the pirates make the girl walk the plank, they make her remove her dress. Then the captain says "Ay, 'tis still warm" or something to that affect. But how would he know... he just got finished saying food turns to dust and they can't feel anything - the wind on his face, the spash of the ocean, yada, yada... OOOPS! Did anyone else catch it.
Oh yeah I got to the move early - Very early and saw the the 5 second ending... nothing special. But if you noticed, you could take a piece of the treasure and give it to someone and only the person who took the treasure was cursed - why not get the monkey to get each piece and give it to him and just leave the monkey there? Hahahaha

This was a great movie and yes Jonny Depp was execellent!!!!!!!! But I did not see the suprise at the end of the credits because I left. If only I had read this forum before I saw the movie.
I loved this movie so much. I thought Johnny Depp was so amazing. I think it's funny that before the movie was released, Orlando Bloom had all this buzz for himself (mainly for his looks and his recent fame with LOTR), but Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush totally stole the entire movie.
Watching this movie just made me smile. You know they must have had so much fun making this movie. It's not every day you get paid money to play a pirate.
I admire Johnny Depp so much. Everything he does is so diverse and amazing. He really went all out for this role. He took a major chance with it too, but he came out successful. As for his other roles, as others have said, definately check out Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's totally f*cked up and "artsy" if you wanna put it in those terms. But it's funny and unique. It's about as close to an acid trip as you'll get without actually taking acid (I do not condone drug use by the way). Also I recommend you check out Donnie Brasco. It's a mob movie with Depp and Al Pacino. It's really good.
Anyway, Pirates is awesome. I recommend it to anybody. As for Alan Denton, yes, you are definately alone on this one. I didn't even bother reading why you didn't like the movie, but oh well. I would try to persuade you otherwise, but it's useless. I guess the movie couldn't be loved by everyone, and an opinion's an opinion. I just wish you'd like it, cuz I thought it was the best movie all summer.
Poor T3, Pirates is taking all its money.

Wow, I really feel like I'm the only person in the universe that didn't enjoy this movie.
What irked me about it so much was the quirky, gimmicky humor. You know what I'm talking about, the way that, after a person gets hit in the face, he freezes for a few seconds, then rigidly falls backwards. Or birds pooping on people. It seemed like it was so desperately reaching for comic relief, and when an action type movie throws such forceful comic relief like that, you know it's because they don't think that it can hold your attention on its own. I just didn't think any of the jokes were funny, and they completely chop up whatever mood they were trying to build.
I think that was their goal. It was one of those filsm that you can go see with your mom nad little sister even. That's who I'm going to see it with. Not all cinema needs to be raw, depressing and or rated R. But I see where you are coming from...there were a few cheese ball lines.
The silence of awe shall soon be heard.

This was a family movie which is why it had the jokes it did and the action it did. I hate nitpickers, just enjoy the movie and stop taking notes on every single detail.
