Superman was never one of my favorite super heroes. I'm not really interested.

Saw it. That guy plays a better Superman than he does Clark Kent, a character already mastered by Christopher Reeve. Spacey is good, twisting Hackman's performance into his own, though one gut-wrenching scene pulls him completely out of character. The girl who looks as if she's young enough to be my daughter does a decent Lois Lane, but she lacks the energy of Kidder. Cyclops is surprisingly good. I hated to see Parker Posey ugly, but she plays her part well. Singer still knows what he's doing, even if he does beat you over the head with his "surprise" and all the retarded symbolism.
Also, this film, as I understand it, is intended as a third installment, following immediately after the second in the series and ignoring numbers three and four. If that's the case, the story is riddled with inconsistencies, one of which involves the memory-wiping kiss and makes absolutely no sense unless Superman is to be implicated as a rapist. I thought that was strange.
Singer brings a different tone to this film, which I haven't decided whether I like. I love the goofiness of the first pair, and much of that is missing here, but I appreciate them trying to take a more straight approach with the story they have. Overall, it's entertaining, if poorly-paced and a little too long. Batman Begins is still 10 times better.

I'll probably see Superman this weekend and report back. My review is completely trustworthy and should end all speculation. If I think it's good, see it. If not, don't waste your time.
Ha, nice. Yeah, so... this did kick X3's ass (wasn't hard to do, but still makes you angry when you see what Singer could've done with it.) I really feel that Superman had everything that Batman was missing, but gave nothing of what Batman had. Basically, the action scenes were damn great, the airplane rescue, and hell, the gattling gun sequence, in Superman totally blows the train scene (really the one mentionable action sequence) in Batman out of the water. However, Superman's story was nowhere near the caliber of Batman's (whose story had me on the edge of my seat enough to look past it's boring, poorly shot and cut fight scenes.) Seriously, for the next sequel to whichever film the guys responsible for the action sequences in Superman need to team up with the guys responsible for the story of Batman. Not to say that everyone else is interchangable, but Batman or Superman, that movie would rule. I have this theory, well more just an analogy. Batman::Rock n' Roll/Metal whereas Superman::Emo. elliott (otiose)...

A-friggin-men. That was my only complaint with Batman Begins, I think, was the poorly shot fight scenes. I know that it was supposed to be a grittier look to the hero, but Batman is a hand-to-hand fighter who has a really kick ass costume and lots of cool doo-dads; when he fights four guys with swords, I want to actually be able to see a beautifully choreographed fight. Not wire work or anything necessarily, but something that I can really remember. That was one area where I think the 1988 version had Batman Begins beat. To get back to the topic, though, I really liked Superman Returns. It was a great summer movie, and it was a good movie in general. A friend of mine said that he thought the plot should've been a lot deeper (something similar to the storylines of the graphic novels). Yeah, it wasn't the most complex of plots, but my defense of it was that it was a good way/story to introduce the character to a new generation, while still giving older fans something they had always known. The deeper storylines can come later in sequels.
