You can't back up an opinion of a film with fact, bud. It's a visceral, emotional and aesthetic experience. No, I really, really, really dislike Gosling, however this was a great movie...one of the best new American movies I've seen in two years (and I've seen A LOT). Trust me that it's great...rent it for 3 dollars (how fricken' hard??)...and tell me what you think of it. I can't help that it got poorly distributed...George Washington didn't get the distribution it deserved...Inland Empire isn't and won't be getting the distribution it deserves...doesn't make it less of a great film. And btw, if anyone's coming off as an "annoying little douche," it's you. Learn to be less confrontational...it'll open a lot more doors.

Also...IMO...Gondry is a good, extremely technically proficient director, but he owes eternal sunshine of the spotless mind 100% to Charlie Kaufman. Kaufman was the genius behind that movie and every other movie he wrote...I mean even George Clooney could make a great movie out of his material. I thought the Science of Sleep was sort of just overblown, emotionally uninviting and pretentious...it was as if Gondry wanted to claim the voice of Eternal Sunshine as his own, by bombarding us with a bunch of really good but ultimately uncohesive visuals. I would like to see him write and direct something more minimalistic to help boost his reputation as a filmmaker, rather than a "music video director turned filmmaker." There's nothing wrong with such a label, but it's hard to ignore, when it becomes apparant that visual splendor is far more important to the director than character development or character emotion. Too many people who have the abilities to be great filmmakers are weighed down by this label and need to do something of their own to break away from it.This message has been edited. Yeah, Charlie Kaufman is a genius. Can't wait for his upcoming directorial debut. Honestly I didn't think "The Departed" was the best film of the year, but I have a feeling it will take home some of the big awards. The ending just didn't sit right with me. I haven't seen "Babel" yet, but I saw the trailer for "Sands of Iwo Jima" the other day (it opens Feb 22 or something here) and it looked awesome. I have a feeling I'm going to really like it. Little Miss Sunshine was good, but not THAT good. And what's wrong with Eddie Murphy getting a nomination for Best Sup Actor. I thought he was really good in "Dreamgirls" even if the film was kind of crap. "Pans Labyrinth" "The Queen" and "Blood Diamond" were all really good, and I'm suprised BD missed out on the Best Pic. nom. "Apocalypto" was really good too, but I never honestly thought mad-Mel would be in the running. The Oscars are fun. Even if at the end of the day they mean very little and often get it wrong they celebrate film and I'm a big fan.
