| I think it was the only way to end the film. Where else do you go without adding an additional half hour of plot, y'know? A decision is made by everyone at that table to overlook atrocities in the hopes of returning to normality, but you can read on their expressions that will not work. And that is the tragedy of the movie and message. We (as americans) try everyday to overlook atrocities committed to us and by us on a daily basis but the affect that this violence has on our souls is undeniable and ultimately destructive. Where the film is more ambiguous is whether or not a certainly level of violence is necessary for survival. That is up to you.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
