I guess you're right about how closely the films follow the books. But there is something about those movies that cheapens the lore in some way I can't explain.

whenever I watch the movies, I look at it as someone else's interpretation.

Like TD, I have read it numerous times, before and after the movies were released, and a lot of it is similar to what I imagine. There is some stuff that I would have done differently, but it was Peter Jackson's vision, not mine.

(This some logic does not apply to the Star Wars prequels Smile)

seriously, this gets me more and more pissed.

How can they look at the Spderman movies and then translate that to the hobbit? what were they thinking. If the spiderman guy, whatever his name is, has any honor, he will refuse and tell them to use jackson

i say we hurry up and make our own versions before the ydo, so then we can build up a movement against $ wh0re hollywood destroying good novels.
we have no $ for the rights of the novel...but thats OK. cause we're not in this for money. we just wanna explore the hobbit creatively, so its gonna be recorded along the way thats jus tto document it happened, maybe itll be in librerries someday.

Perhaps you should watch "A Simple Plan" then. He's far better than Jackson IMO and I didn't even like the Spiderman movies. But what he did with "The Evil Dead" is far better than any "Bad Taste" and "A Simple Plan" is better than "Heavenly Creatures" so just because you don't know his name doesn't mean he should bow to Jackson, who to me is a nobody still, both since LOTR and before when i'd never even heard of him (yet now he's held up as the greatest ever?).

I just saw Andrew Lesnie speak (DP for LOTR and King Kong) and when someone asked what he thought about the whole Hobbit situation, he basically said, "that's BS. Peter Jackson will direct The Hobbit. Trust me."

Fool of a studio. They should throw themselves in next time, and rid us of their stupidity.

I guess this means the key players in the film wouldn't want to do the movie without Peter Jackson's direction... thus bringing the studio to accept Jackson as the director.

Besides, the studio is stupid for not knowing that Jackson's name alone would help get people in the theaters. I remember the first War of the Worlds teaser trailer was simply Cruise and Spielberg's name and the title of the film. That shows how much star power helps a movie's advertisment.

Are any of you guys going to buy the Limited Edition set of DVDs? Apparently they have blooper reels, and the full behind the scenes that they only showed a small section of in the previous DVD's. Im tossing up wether or not it's worth the money

I all ready own the special edition box sets, I don't see the point buying an all new set . . . all the blooeprs will probably end up on youtube anyway.

I did and there's not really a blooper reel on any of them. The new docs are alright. For the most part its the crew who does the narration and they get the most face time. I would have liked to see more of the actors in them. The docs on the extended editions are pretty thorough and I believe more entertaining. I'd say get them if you have the spare change burning a hole in your wallet but you aren't really missing anything if you don't want to.
