Everyone, I understand if you don't like Citizen Kane because of its story. It's not the most exciting plot you'll ever see. But I don't think ANYBODY has a right to say they don't like this movie. If it doesn't appeal to you, that's fine, but you should still appreciate the fact that this movie introduced so many film techniques (that everybody takes for granted today) that had never been used before. For one thing, The film introduced "universal focus" to get the image of Kane and the poster picture during the speech sequence. Deep focus also was used more in movies after this movie. Or in the shot where his wife is singing an opera and the camera moves all the way up to the rafters, that was new in the way they achieved it, but I don't know what it is called. Or something as simple even as cross-cutting between two characters during a conversation, a technique that EVERYONE uses today, made its first impression in Citizen Kane. I'm not doing enough justice to the amazing technical aspects of this movie because I've only seen it once, and I've read some articles on it, but I will say that there are so many things in this movie that paved the way for film-making that nobody seems to appreciate. Orson Welles is a genius. So he didn't choose the most electrifying story to tell, but don't hate on the movie if you don't like it. Appreciate it for what it brought to cinema.

I think I understand; Citizen Kane is hailed for what it did for cinema, not the film itself.

I can agree with that, and if that's how you feel then whatever, go watch citizen kane, I don't even give a ****.

If Welles hadn't done it...somebody else I'm sure would've been the first. Therefor I still don't see the big deal
