I think the 2 disks full of featurettes are really great. I learned a lot from the "forced perspective" featurette. I mean, wow, what detail. I haven't even rewatched the movie yet because I got engulfed in the bonus materials.
Well worth a rent.

yeah, very true... although, i bought all 4 dvds so far, since each dvd has different stuff... so you didnt really waste your money if you bought the theatrical release, and the extended edition, since you will only find certain things on the theatrical edition DVDs...

Its just a matter of foresight. If you're an idiot and run out and buy the movie the first day it comes out without checking if they will send out somehting cooler a month later the you wasted your buck. But if you WANT both then you're cool too. It seems to me you don't like LOTR because you feel like you got jipped $20. I don't know, that's what it looks like from here.
Anyway, on the Two Towers one, you need to watch the one called "Warriors in the 3rd Age" if you're into the stunt aspects of the movie. That was amazing. Not to mention the integration of bigatures, Cg, and live action in both movies. And so often the integration seems seamless.
(TREEBEARD IS A FREAKIN' ROBOT!!!!!!!!)

The hobbits had to wear thick cloaks at like 120 farenheit
Countless nights of stayig up until the wee hours of the morning,
Andy Serkis dove into 32 farenheit water
Sean Astin got his wig ripped off (This is like superglue folks)
Countless hours of physical training for fights.
This movie took a lot out of everybody, now they are probably in the best shape of their lives!

I really don't see it as ripping us off, as they clearly announced it before they released the first DVD. Jackson stated that the first DVD release was for those who just wanted the movie as it was seen in theatres, and there are some who probably prefer that version of it. The Extended Cut was for those hardcore fans who wanted an extended version of the movie and a bit more insight. Not at all ripping anyone off. Both DVDs have their purposes. What I call ripping off is what the Miramax spokesperson said about the Kill Bill DVDs. Saying how they were going to milk it for all it's worth with the bare bones editions for both movies, a special edition for both movies, a box set of both of them, and then Quentin Tarantino's version of it. This was only admitted after the first DVD had already come out and had made loads of money. Now that's getting ripped off.
