| quote: I think I see where you're coming from. I'm still not sure what profound thing it "says about how people are" that Daniel's motivation is unclear (other than, "sometimes our motives are unclear"
for me it isnt the fact that his motivation is unclear, it is th fact that Daniel could be motivated by essentially either greed or love...selflessness or selfishness....but the fact that these complete polar opposites could result in the same actions seemed amazing to me. As soon as i left the theatre i thought "daniel is either very complicated, or very simple"..... this idea makes you take a second look at everyone...It makes you wonder if jerks like Hitler were jerks our of love, and if people we idolize like Gandhi had ulterior motivation. quote: Combine any random events or random images, and our brains will try to forge some connection between them. Encouraging that kind of connection-forming is the definition of "provocative"; and while that can, admittedly, be kind of fun, it's MadLibs, not art.
i think that art is one of those things you can't define like that... Some might say that you make art because you felt something, and you want to make a connection to others who feel that same thing...this is true...however, yo can also say that art can mean something different for each individual person...also true...This means that you can make art with a specific outcome in mind, or without any. nonetheless, i can see where you are coming from. |

| I was saying your quote: quote: Combine any random events or random images, and our brains will try to forge some connection between them. is really close to the way Lynch describes Mulholland Dr, Inland Empire, Lost Highway, and Blue Velvet. And those films are arguably the most intuitive/complex/deep films in a long while.
