I was thinking about Michel Gondry's music videos and I noticed he had made alot of commercials. Commercials are like the extreme short films and I was wondering what are some of the best short films by the better known directors.

Wes Anderson has a great credit card commercial also.

There's always Ridley Scott's fantastic Apple Commercial from the 1984 Superbowl.

David Lynch has made some amazing commercials.

Wow! That David Lynch one sucked. Did he really do that? Looks like some high school kid watched Eraserhead and Blue Velvet too many times and made that for a TV class.

He's not famous, but I spent my time in LA last summer with Dewey Nicks, who is mostly a commercial director. I think he's pretty good. He got an award that got him on the director's guild for the Ameritrade commercial "Let's Light This Candle." The Ben Sherman shoes one is pretty darn funny too.

Wes Anderson has done commercials for American Express and Dasani commercials. The American Express commercial was easily the best AMEX, "My Life My Card" spot, and it is currently my favorite commercial: Wes Anderson

If you've seen his movies, I think you'll especially get a kick out of this one. It's extremely well done. Many people find it to be extremely reminscent of Day for Night, and rightfully so, which is fairly astounding considering it's only a 2 minute TV spot. Anyway, definately check this one out. The Dasani ones are fairly funny as well.
