I have recently been accepted to Loyola Marymount, under their screenwriting undergrad major, and Emerson, under their Film Production with a focus on writing for film and television undergrad major. I was wonder which of these school has a better reputation, academics , and staff?

I am the same, except I got into the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount and the film production major at Emerson. I am completely stuck.

On one hand, Emerson is right in the centre of Boston, on the East Coast (which has appeal to me, being an international student, I don't know about you) and has a great reputation for finding students jobs after graduation. On the other hand, LMU has also got a great reputation, is in LA, and also has good connections.

I have researched Emerson, and have heard that it is extremely focused. If you are totally positive that you want to go into screenwriting, then maybe Emerson is the better choice because it apparently hones in on the specific skills you will need in future and leaves very little room to change your mind.

Yea, I've basically heard the same things about Emerson. I just wish it wasn't in Boston. I have lived on the east coast my entire life, and really want to go somewhere else for college. Also, I feel like I will not get any exposure to the real film industry if I don't go to school in California.

Whatever, I still have a lot of time to make my final desicion

I heard that Emerson is going to set up an L.A. branch for the film students. Does anyone else know anything about this?

I think the LA campus acts as like a 1 semester study abroad program.

Yea the LA program is study abroad for junior and seniors, but there is a big reputation of Emerson in LA. There is even an "emerson mafia." Im not sure what it is, im guessing emerson alumni but yea. Ill be attending emerson next year and ill definitely be doing that program or the film study abroad in Prague (also really cool). But when interning in LA, it is common for the companies to hire those same students after graduation or something of that sort. I havnt really heard anything about LMU, but Emerson also offers opportunities in LA...

Emerson is in the process of expanding the LA program: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/apr/04/business/fi-school4

When the project is complete Emerson will be the first film school to have a campus on both coasts.
