Which film school do your think is the best? And why?

What factors caused you to pick one school over another?

Let the site know what you think...

Personally, I will be attending NYU starting this fall, and as far as I'm concerned, it is absolutely the best school I could have gotten in to. I applied to a number of other schools - including Chapman, USC, FSU - and was accepted into all of them, but my ultimate deciding factor in choosing NYU, aside from its reputation which certainly precedes it, was the location.

Florida's program looked really great - small classes, supportive of its students, full funding of projects by the school - but what opportunities would I have for internships and post-graduation employment in the field in Florida?

USC is also considered one of the top film schools, but almost everyone I know told me to stay away from Los Angeles as long as I possibly could. On the other hand, it has been my dream to live in New York City for quite a while now, and the combination of attending a highly regarded film school and living in what is probably my favorite city in the world ended up being the deciding factor for me.

Yea I agree, location is very important especially reguarding finding employement after graduation. FSU has some strong connections with LA and they say 90% of their graduates go to LA and work in the Industry I'm pretty sure.

But I don't get why you would wanna stay away from Los Angeles as long as possible... Everyone Ive talked to says it is just THE place for movie making, which fits its reputation. I have a friend who lives there, an adult friend who works in music stuff, he told me not to go anywhere but Cali if I was serious. New York is pretty good for movies too obviously but Los Angeles definitely seems to be the best place for film making.

You say you don´t want to go to FSU because it has no opportunities, then you say you want to stay away from LA?

That doesn´t make any sense.

What I mean about FSU is film-related opportunities during my 4 years of studies - sure, 90% of its graduates go on to LA and find jobs in the industry, but I want to start working on film productions and making connections as early as freshman year. And sure, LA can offer those opportunities, but New York can, too.

There is a new visual effects film school based at Pinewood Studios in UK. The director also has a vfx company based at the studio and has worked on films like Da Vinci Code, Dr Parnassus and Wolfman. Worth taking a look if that's what you want to go into.
