No I'm not really puting my college fate in your hands, but I would just like to see what the student films community thinks of my situation. My goal in life isn't especially to be a Director, but to have a job in some aspect of the film business such as cinematographor or post-production editor, I'd even be complacent working on HBO TV shows that have the film look.

I was accepted to Emerson and Ithaca, but for my secondary majors, TV. At Ithaca there's a 90% chance I'd be able to transfer into film, at Emerson, it's about 5%. Syracuse let me into their film program and while I'm still waiting to hear from Purchase, I'll just go on the assumption that I'll get in just to add another choice.

Emerson was clearly my top choice, but that was when I thought I would get into film. I know they still have a great film club that allows on set experience and good connections in the Entertainment industry that might help me seep into film. What your take?

Question:
Where should I go?

Choices:
Emerson-Studio Television
Ithaca-TV
Syracuse-BFA in Film
Purchase-BFA in Film

If for no other reason, Boston is better than Syracuse, NY in every way imaginable...

Actors? What actors?

Syracuse.

They want to teach you what you want to learn...no what ifs involved.

Also, I've seen some pretty impressive work come out of there, from 18 and 19 year olds...you get to play with the toys right away. They teach you many, many aspects of both DV and film...one guy cut an entire eight minute project on a Steenbeck, which is pretty flippin' cool, in my opinion...seems like nobody cares about linear anymore...

(I'm not against the digital revolution, but I have an unending love for film. I use my Bolex and my Canon religiously.)

I'm going to visit Emerson this weekend, so for this post, I'm assuming I'll like it as much as I think I will.

Yes for a profession, I want to go into some aspect of film, but I feel that even a TV degree at Emerson will give me more job security than a Film degree at Syracuse. With a fallback job in place, I will have time to make films on my side besides, it's not like I'm majoring in some polor opposite major like Neuroscience, I'll still be in the visual entertainment field and TV and Film are blending in some aspects. I'll also ask this weekend how hard it is to minor in another field.

I agree with you. I don't know if it is the smartest decision, but I definitely agree with you, and that is the thinking that I would have.

Good luck.
