I'm an aspiring transfer student trying to get in the film production programs at either NYU, USC, Emerson or Chapman; my main focus being on editing (but im open to anything of course).
My high school GPA was about 2.4 and my college GPA has been about 3.2, and I've never taken the SAT/ACT. I feel like my greatest strengths on my application come in my essays/portfolio, but hopefully my work experience as well. I was hired as a production assistant (video editing, studio camera work, prompter, setting up live remote shots, etc.) at the local Fox affiliate's TV station here in Sacramento, CA, and was recently promoted to an assistant director. I've been there about two years now.
A lot of my work experience is highly related to the technical side of filmmaking but not so much the creative side, since that's not really what the news is there for. I also have quite a few other resume highlights that I think the admissions panel is looking for, but I was just curious how much my job experience will help me get in to any of the schools I mentioned? All the applications asked about relevant work experience, so I figure they must take it into consideration, but not sure by how much.

I don't know if this is relevant to my applications either, but I was also sure to mention a suicide attempt I made a few years back that landed me in the hospital for two months. I go into a bit more detail about in on the apps of course and I'm hoping that they'll see it as an "obstacle I overcame" or maybe just something interesting about me. What do you guys think?
