Hello everybody! It's my first time to post on this site. It may be a bit long but I really need the help. I'm a college student out of the U.S. and dicided to apply for transfer, but not know much about the schools. I'd like to get into a film production program. I have done some reseach and now made up my list. Can you give me some suggestions about it? I'd like to know if I miss something or not.

Here is my list:

NYU
USC
Chapman
CalArts
SVA
UT-Austin
FSU
Emerson

I understand that some of them especially the top two would be quite difficult for me but I'll try. I removed Syracuse, Boston and UNCSA from my original list cuz as I know, Syracuse is in an all-digital enviranment which I don't really want, Boston seems not practical enough and UNCSA has a mandatory off-campus interview which is impossible for a distant me.

What I'd like to know about are the following questions:

1.Are there any other schools that I should add to my list? Focus on faculty, student body and facilities.
2.Is my list safe? I mean I would be happy to enter any one of them, but should I also apply to some open-admission-schools like CCC in case no one on my list accept me?
3.How is LMU? I know they have good facilities and location but know little about other aspects. How are the faculty and student body in their program?

It's a little verbose but the questions are still lying there after my reseach. Can anyone give me some suggestions? Any info would be helpful.

You don't need to interview if you are an international student applying to UNCSA.

Hi Sketchy, are you sure about that? I checked up their website and found that they put transfer and international transfer together as a same item with an interview requirement.

Maybe I should send them email to ask about it. Thanks for your info.

That is a good list, but is there a reason why you didn't put UCLA down?

The best thing you can do is do as much research on all the schools and their film programs and make an informed decision. Don't necessarily go by ranking, because what works for you may not work for someone else.
i.e. UCLA and USC have an amazing program, but a lot of the teaching (from what I hear) is from books. Chapman believes students should learn by doing. However there is some red tape in making a film for your senior year at Chapman.

I just started my first year at Chapman a few weeks ago, and so far I'm loving it, despite how overwhelming it is.

I did't put UCLA down because I heard that it is a great school for graduates, but not for undergraduates. What their BA students get in touch with are some basic introductions and pratises. Maybe someone would correct me if I'm wrong.

Besides I'm frustrated when looking for the infomation about transfer deadline of UCLA. It seems like their whole undergraduate admission website is designed for current UCLA students.

Overwhelming is somehow a good thing I think. Haha~

Does anybody know anyone that has attended/is attending FSU Film School? I'm looking to apply to there film program concentrating on Directing.....I wanted to know is the program hard to get into? How competitive is it? If there's anyone attending the school..DO u like it?
