For those high school students from nj (which i know there are a few out there), has anyone heard of the nj governors school? Its this special school over the summer and it is fully paid for, and you attend for a whole month. Its a school set up by a governor a few years ago to help educate gifted students. They have a few different departments, and in the past few years they established a video production department at the college of nj. HS students need to be nominated by tv teacher and then they have to write a script and shoot it.

Does anyone else know about this. few people do. I was nominated for the art school (film is a department off of it) and i had to make a film. I dont know if i get accepted till march. Was any of you nj guys nominated too? Does anyone know what the wtf im talking about?

Im sure no one knows wth im talking about, but it couldnt hurt asking.

My high school doesn't have a TV department so I wouldn't know.

I was nominated last year to go to the governor school's video/film program (I opted for NYFA program instead). Its a nice program from what ive read and been told. Its totally free so you dont have to pay anything to attend. My friend who went said you do a sync sound 16mm project, but most of the projects are digital. The people who attend have skill levels reanging from advanced knowledge to barely nothing. I think its a good program, but would recommend that if you want to go to film school that you try and go to a summer program at an actuall college (ie: NYU, syracuse, USC, calarts).

I was nominated for the Governor's school as well for film; however, I am not going to pursue it because I am enrolling in NYFA in London. Hope you are accepted!

hey yea, thanks. Congrats to you guys for being nominated.
Does anyone know how stict they are on evaluating someone. I heard from people that only 12 people get in out of all of nj. That seems crazy hard to get into.

Oh and joel,
Why do u recommend going to a summer workshop at a college when you automatically get in, while something like the governors school only take a select few (mostl likely a good some of the best the state has to offer) and would most likely look great on a college application?

Just askin.

ill give an example:

If you wanted to go to NYU for film, then it would be a better idea to attend their summer video program than the one at NYFA. BTW, not everyone gets into different college summer programs, the problem is that they look at grades very heavily in order to accept people.

Going to a summer program at a college you want to attend will only help you when applying to that school. The only problem with college summer programs, in my opinion, is that they are very expensive.

plus ive never heard any college admissions people say that they've heard of the NJ governor's school.
