Hey, new on this website but have checked it out a few times in the past. Anyway my question is what do film schools look for most when you apply to them.
I live in Florida and am looking to go to get my bachelors in film after I get my associates from the community college I am at.
I am hoping to get into the FSU program but I have heard that it is really hard to get into (allowing only 5 transfer students).
I just want to know what I need to have done in order for them to seriously consider my application. How important is volunteer hours (I've volunteered at film festivals), how important is the students GPA, and how important is it to send in a nude photograph of yourself?
Any help is appreciated.

I don't know anything about FSU's film program. But I know UCLA and USC put a lot of empahsis on writing. Like UCLA, for example. To be considered for adminission you have to submit a personal essay, critical essay on a film or television sitcom, a creative writing sample. It can be a short story, script, and 3 other things I think. But you don't have to have prior experience in film to apply to both SCA OR TFT. They just want ambitious people who can tell a story. Which boils back down to the writing part. Something I think FSU would agree with. Your asking about prerequisites but most film programs won't allow you to transfer "production" course credits over from another institution. You have to take your classes at your film school of choice. So you should complete all general education requirements for FSU before you transfer and take all film-related classes at FSU. GPA? Well at UCLA and USC you have to have a 3.7 to be considered. So try to aim for a 4.0 or higher. Because your gonna need it. Nude photograph of yourself? LMAO! You don't need a picture, video, or anything. Just a HIGH grade point average, writing samples, volunteer hours, and sometimes extracurricular activities as well since admission is so competitive. Most colleges don't want average joes. They want over achievers. So you gotta be more than you can be. It is possible to be accepted into the university but not the film program. Or be accepted into the film program but not the university itself. I don't know which one is worst.

BTW the whole nude photo thing was a joke, not a very good one but not to be taken seriously nonetheless.

Thanks little Bastard for the Info. Ittl be hard to get a 4.0 since I Have a B already. Should be my only one though. I figure maybe if I take an honors course I might get back up there. I dont have many volunteer hours so I guess if the colleges look at that hard I should get crackin. As far as the Essay goes, ya FSU requires one as well, but thats all they want. They dont want videos and when I emailed the BFA consultant about if I should send in a screenplay, I got an Automated response back saying to check out the site fo rmore details.

I want to get into FSU but at the same time I don't want to be competing 24/7 with all my peers jsut to survive. I know It'll look alot beter on my record than say UCF would though.
