| SUNY Purchase is a state school about 3o minutes away from nyc. It is a very artsy, freethinking school with many competitive art programs, including film. Temple University also has a strong film program and is right in the heart of Philadelphia. Hofstra University (about a 20 minute train ride from NYC) also has a large program for broadcasting and film, though I don't know how competitive they are. Montclair State University, in New Jersey (but about 20 minutes away from NYC) also has a competitive film program. Sarah Lawrence (Yonkers, NY) and Fordham (Manhattan) also have more alternative types of film programs.

| by the way, i am a senior in high school, and i'm going to attend NYU in the fall. I know about these schools because though NYU was my #1 school, I wanted to be open-minded about looking at other schools.
