Hello I am a senior who will be applying in this fall.
I have dreamed of becoming producer since junior high and that dream has kept on. I am aiming for USC, and TISCH, but I guess I have to look at more film schools too, unless I don't get left optionless.
To tell the truth, I am a international student(Korean) and since I live in South Korea, the biggest disadvantage is that I can't visit any film schools in US. So I have been depending on informations on Internet and books. And just few days ago I found this amazing site and I am very glad that I can actually ask these questions to people who has experiences or people who are going on a parallow way with me. Here are few questions I really want to know. I really desperately need these answers.
1. In US film schools, what Film schools offer Early Decisions?(or EA if there exsists one) I know NYU TISH has ED, but don't know any other. (Broader the better) And when does most people apply? during regular season?
2. In the Portfolio, about creative submission student make, what are the main aspect those admissioners are looking for? And can they actually notify if creative submission is created merly by student's pure work without helps from professionals?
3. Umm, since the main object of the Film is to mutually communiciate with the viewers, In order to be successful, I think well knowing the western culture is extremely important and these apsects are kind of dragging my back. I don't really think I have communicating problem although English is my second Lang, because I have spent my young days in Canada, however in any cases, it can't be compared to natives who use English as their mother language. So what is most worried is that if I will be able to adpat to film programs. Do you guys think students from other countries (especially oriental) have chances to be competitive compare to natives?
Oh and what are the usual rates of international students in film programs. Specific information would be great. And how those students do in school? Is there many Koreans in that field?
4. Lastly, for the creative submissions, do you guys think schools have priority for those submissions? I mean like they like movie more than Photo, and Photo more than writings like this way..... Because, making movie requires too much preparation, works and money, and I think under my circumstances, it would be very demanding to create a short film. But if they have certain priority, it would be very influencive.
Thank you for reading this totally long post, but I really desperately need answers to these questions. Plz answer any of them that you know. Pieces of information are fine for me.
I really do not have clear view in US film schools , so please inform me as much information as possible.
So many things are different in Korea, and there is hardly no one to ask. Even my counselor doesn't seems to know a lot about Film programs. Plz save this pity soul.
