Hey I don't know much about Syracuse but I'm applying to the transmedia film program there. Can anybody help me out and estimate if I have a pretty good chance at getting into Syracuse?
SAT: Math- 710 Reading- 580 Writing- 650
GPA: Unweighted- 90 Weighted- 91
School doesn't rank, but it's a really competitive school, the median GPA is 87.
EC's- Founder and captain of varsity diving team, New York Film Academy, Travel exchange programs, club diving league, international club, ski club.
Job- I had a pretty impressive job as a promotional and instructional video writer/director/editor for a pharmaceutical laser company. I also work 34 hours per week (after school) as a photo technician in CVS.
Overall, I'd say you have a good chance at Syracuse. Although your SAT scores are inconsistent, your GPA is solid, and your EC's look pretty good. As with most other film schools, it really comes down to the portfolio.
I considered Syracuse, and even took a tour of the campus (it was beautiful when I went in the summer), but I couldn't imagine myself dragging myself across that quad in the dead of winter at some unholy, low temperature. Also, consider that an important aspect of film school is its ability to give you connections, and Syracuse is a good 6 hours from New York City. Sure, the professors may have connections, but it'd be hard getting an internship.
i applied to syracuse regular decision too, and although their program is straight, i have been thinken about internship opps as well. and like, although i really like the school, and dont mind the cold, i wonder if its too disconnected from nyc and that whole deal.
