I'm starting a community college film program and looking ahead for a school to transfer to in a year or so. I've heard that a lot of the big-name schools (USC, NYU, etc.) are overcrowded and don't actually provide as much hands-on work or creative freedom as some of the smaller schools. Can someone share their experience and opinions about this? Also, if anyone here transferred from community college, I'd appreciate any advice on what cc courses are generally accepted by film schools. Thanks!

I'd eventually like to end up writing/directing indie films, so I'm especially looking for advice in that area. Thanks.

Independent filmmakers can come out of any school, but what you do need in a school that is challenging. There is USC, yes, but I would a look at NYU which has an awesome program. Florida State also has a very good program as well as long as you can stomach being a Seminole. smile

Do some research and that will take you closer to where you want to go.
