Hi i am a senior in high school who lives in the Cincinnati area. For quite some time i have wanted to pursue a degree in film production. I have been trying to figure out the best way to achieve this. After considering my options, and due to current money/geographical constraints, i have decided not to get my undergrad in film production, but rather video production at Ohio university. And from there starting a career in television before going to a west coast school to get a MFA in some area of film production. Would this be considered a good option, i have heard that OU's video production program is quite good. I also visited the college today and really liked it and could see myself going there. I wanted to get my undergrad in film production but i feel getting the undergrad in video production would be a better idea. Would this be a good way to go. I have also considered minoring in film studies to help prepare myself for film. I think Video has a lot more options in the beginning and i can always go to AFI or USC to get my MFA in film.

Doesn't Ohio University have a Film major (the Honors Tutorial college or something like that)?

Can you study both film and video? I'm not familiar with the program at OU, but I went to Cleveland State for undergrad, and was fortunate enough to study both video and film production before coming to USC for my MFA in screenwriting.

Why are you planning for an MFA? If you know that's what you want to do, then do it, but it may be highly redundant...not to mention expensive.

Personally, while I got a lot from my education at CSU, I felt I needed more training in the craft. However, while four of the ten recent CSU film grads here in LA attend/graduated top film schools this year (Chapman, USC, and two at AFI), six of them are working in the industry already.

Just sayin...you might not need the MFA.

Best of luck.

For the HTC, it would be very unlikely that i got into it. OU doesnt have a regular undergrad in film production, the HTC only takes like 10 people a year. If i did the video production it would not be geared toward film but video, but you can specialize in single camera(film-like) shooting. So its probably like doing digital, which is the future (unfortunately). And about the MFA i dont know if i will do that, its just a thought for me right now.
