hi ,
i wanted to know whether there are any copyright rules for plays written in 18th century that is upto 1799 ? i wanted to adapt such a play into modern day life

There is absolutely no way that anything written in 1799 is under any kind of copyright protection. For other copyright issues I find this site to be pretty helpful. http://copyright.cornell.edu/r...ces/publicdomain.cfm
