Welcome to Studentfilms.com, the online film discussion forum for filmmakers and students who are applying to film school, attending film school, need advice on making films, or just want to share their films with the world.
Hey, everyone, just wanted to propose an idea that I think would increase the viewings of films on the site, especially ones that desperately need them. My idea is to include a "Coming Soon" page to the site, where Chris posts info about upcoming films when he receives them in the mail. It wouldn't have to be a big page, it would only have to include each upcoming film's name, filmmaker name, brief synopsis, and posting date. I think it would substantially increase pre-release buzz for the films by letting people know about the films in advance, which gives time for increased anticipation, and for people to maybe even tell other people about the upcoming films. And as long as new films are listed every week, nobody will forget that the films they're waiting for are on the way. Well, anyway, this is just a little idea for the site that I thought up today, and you guys feel free to debate about it all you like.

All these ideas are great! I vote yes on all them. Especially the "coming soon" but especially the "smoother running website." Downloads are fast though, that's a plus.

As to the newer smoother site, i can tell you it is i the works. Myself and the other Mods got the opportunity to check out a sample of what it will be like and it is pretty sweet. A whole new look.
As to the "Coming Soon" it sounds good to me. Not sure what kind of work would have to go into that or if it is really feasible but I like it. R. Michael

The "Coming Soon" section sounds interesting...possibly...but there are many other features that I need to add to the site first before I can think about that.
Perhaps in the meantime, there can be another Topic Heading for "Movie Posters" and people can design their own, host them on their own site and post links. That way everyone can still see what's coming up and Chris can work it in at his leisure!
Whos being that Jorge? People do that already, might as well make it organized. Good idea MArk. Way to use the ol' noodle.

Interesting idea, but I think the problem is that student film makers often will get very far with an idea (or perhaps not far at all, just really psyched), only to have it gradually fall apart and fade away. So if we have all these people saying things like, "Hey guys guess what?! Me and my friends are going to make a super cool adaptation of "Tron" as a romantic comedy!" So everyone gets excited, or laughs, or whatever, and then a month later this guy and his friends realize it's not a good idea, and nobody ever hears anything about it again.
I'm not saying everyone will do this, but there definitely would have to be more than just announcements or stills from an upcoming movie.
What about a trailers section? Or sneak peaks of movies that show a section of what someone has shot?
there is a page on this site where you can read about the filmmaker. You can also give a link on your film's page to a website.
Just go to a film, and click on the filmmaker's (or any other crew member/actor's name) and you'll get info and a list of his/her films they are involved with on the site.
Not a lot of filmmakers have this filled out though, if you are a filmmaker here and want that section to say something about you, just e-mail a short bio on yourself and send it to Chris (He once encouraged this)
