Straight and to the point: I'm looking for someone good to score a movie at no cost except credits and a copy of the movie for your showreel. First, allow me to explain the story behind the making of this movie:

I am a Senior Foreign Service Officer stationed in Kuwait. I manage a large U.S. Government broadcasting station here that is under the authority of our Embassy in Kuwait City. Digital filmmaking is my hobby and sideline and radio and TV production was my previous profession before going to work for the Government over 20 years ago.

The Department of State's Family Liaison office in Washington recently has put out a worldwide call to all their posts abroad, requesting videos to show to perspective officers and family members who are considering bidding on future assignments at these posts. These videos will be used to provide a visual preview of what life and culture at that post looks like. The idea behind the concept is a good one, but it goes without saying that they will be getting a lot of very amateurish (and boring)home movies.

The Embassy community here approached me to volunteer to help them make such a video (they know I have the equipment and make short digital films - See examples of my work here). I resisted the invitation at first, not wanting to waste my time making a boring travelogue. Then I had an idea. Why not make something that is a cut above, and do it as an Embassy family community project. This Embassy has about 400 employees and dependents. So I made them a counter proposal to make a real theatrical movie, that could be enjoyed by a general audiance, and creatively fill the bill for the original purpose. We would use available artistic talent and manpower within the community to accomplish the project. When completed, the community could have a 'world premiere' movie night at the Embassy, DVDs would be made for keepsakes, a copy could be placed on the Internet so others could watch the movie, and a copy sent to the Department of State for their original purpose. So I wrote a story and pitched it to them. The story is a comedy about a junior Foreign Service Officer's first assignment overseas. It is laced with some off-the-wall spoof sight gags and a dramatic subplot with a surprise ending.

The be honest, I did not think they would go for it (diplomats and bureaucrats are mostly a droll lot), but the Embassy front office thought that the process of making the movie would be a great recreational activity for the families living here. So the scripting and production design are well underway. I want the finished movie to be as professional as possible; something good enough that the "Director's Cut" might even make it into a film festival, if it turns out as envisioned. My biggest concern is the music. This movie will require a talented composer but, because it is an all volunteer effort, I can't afford one. So, I am looking for a volunteer.

If you are interested contact me at johnsonimagineering@gmail.com and provide me with a link to your music samples. If you have the right sound I will share the story with you and we will discuss the proposal. Thank you for your attention to this request.
