Permutations Concept Trailer from Nicholas Coyle on Vimeo.

This is an EXTREMELY ROUGH concept trailer. We practically threw it together. It doesn't reflect the final look or feel (or quality) of the final film, but instead was merely a test to see what we could do with the premise.

Permutations is a personal film about a man (referred to as "The Traveller" within the script) who randomly and uncontrollably jumps through time and space. With no way of anchoring himself into a single time, he is cursed to lead a life without love and friendship. This begins to change when he meets a woman who is similarly cursed, but there are still major hurdles to overcome. The Traveller is starting to visit certain moments multiple times, which is causing his life to fold back onto itself. He is beginning to loose his sense of identity and must soon find a way to gain control over his curse or to stop it completely.

The movie will be shot on 16mm film. It will be entirely dialogue-less, choosing to rely completely on the emotions of the characters and the visual style of the film to drive the story.

Production will start at an unknown time sometime in the future. That's right, we have no idea.

I liked how it was essentially one shot. The only personal thing I would change is to use a steadicam. I think it would flow easier. Nevertheless, it stills looks very good.
I'll also add your Facebook group.

Best of luck!

Thanks.
Yeah, a good steadicam would have been nice, I agree. I just didn't have enough money for a fancy one, so oh well. Although I did use one of those really cheap things that is basically a stick with a weight on one end and a camera mount on the other, which made it slightly better in some places. But it really takes a good steadicam to make smooth shots because digital cameras are so light.

Anyways, the final film will be made with much much much better equipment.

That's all I use; a cheap, weighted steadicam for-what?-$18? I'm very interested in how this turns out. When did you find studentfilms?

Hmm. It was probably extra jerky because I was rushed to finish this then. The trailer was filmed in the last few days of summer break before everyone went back to their colleges in various states, so it was a bit crazy. But yeah, I believe we a similar one. Is yours the "poor man's steadicam?"

I found Studentfilms a long long time ago. It was probably when I was a freshman in high school. I only posted one film back then. Soon after that, I wasn't doing many films until college because I was working on a feature length film that took all of that time up (sophomore to senior year). But now I'm in college and have shot many a film for various film classes, so now I have quite a few movies on Studentfilms.
