Macintosh or Windows, everybody?

The painter paints, the singer sings, the sculpter sculpts, but the director-he makes monuments.

Oy...here we go again. Smile

I love my Mac. But to each their own.

Avid currently runs faster and has more features on the PC (the Mac features are always a couple of months behind).

When I use Avid on a PC it is on a box that it's only purpose is to run Avid. It is NOT connected to the internet. Once you connect a PC to the internet - all hell breaks loose.

I'm loving my virus/spyware free Powerbook though. Smile

For editing, with PCs you get Avid, Premiere, and Vegas.

With Macs you get Avid and FCP.

The bloated nature of Windows and the virus proned nature of it is the main reason why I use a Mac.

That's the sad truth. And the only thing to stop it is hefty antivirus/internet blocking software, but who wants to eat up their precious processing power with those running in the background when you have effects to render?

I use FCP at school, Avid at work, and Premiere at home. And as much as I like(d) Premiere, FCP is extremely similar to it and runs so much faster. I'd make out with FCP if it was a well-proportioned woman. Macs are just video workhorses, you can't go wrong with them.

macs are cool, i have one, but both pc and macs have a weakness, and i wish they would make them compatable with eachother, it would make all things easier, or they should come up with an ultimate computer for filmmakers that will be 1000 times better and will be cheap to purchase! but that'll never happen

nah, i had one virus in my entire existance, and it was my own fault because i was trying to send it to someone back when i was trying to be 1337 or something. as long as you're cautious, you don't get virii. yeah, its hard as hell to get a virus on the macs, but you've gotta be a real stupidass to get one on the pc.

It's actually extremely easy. Accidentally click yes to a script permission dialog, and you've got a boatload of trouble on your hands. Believe me, I consider myself very technically-oriented and stuff as even gotten by me.

i don't accidentally click anything, i keep a perceptive eye on everything i do, which is why i don't get viruses. if a stupid little message pops up to try and trick me, i read it. if it's bull****, i x out or if its a script permission, i click 'no'. you can't just blindly click ****, or click ok for everything.

i also don't use programs loaded with spyware, and i don't pirate software. you'd be amazed how many of my dumb ass friends pirated vegas or premiere, and they end up with a virus from the crack.

yeah, it isn't something you worry about on the mac platform, but there's other disadvantages to using that.

Mac all the way for Video editing.

But I find you sort of need both! I have a G5 and an HP Condor. And throughout a project I use both and with email and admin stuff the PC is just easier. I'm doing auditions now and all my communication with actors and storage of their demo reels and headshots are on a PC, plus all my pre-production/budgeting stuff (All on Gorilla, argh!) is on PC. But the second I start importing and editing its gotta be a Mac.

I currently use Windows, but I have used Mac and I think its better. I want to make the switch one day. But until then, I guess I'd better defend Windows Movie Maker. Yay for it.

Mac was better but Windows lately is becoming very good, tons of cool software. I'm sure Windows on the long run will be the winner.
