Hahahah, actually I dodn't buy one. I am not that rich...unfortunately.

I was at an at&t store (NOT for an iPhone), and got to play around with it fore a while.

All I can say is that it's incredibly slick and would be worth the money if I had it (but equipment upkeep and filmmaking comes first).

I was about to say. iPhone purchase in the summer = ramen noodles in the fall.

It really worked a lot better than I had expected when I tried it. The interface is completely seamless, and the keyboard actually works quite well.

I envy you, Josh. I envy you.

I'll jump on the envy train too. I really like the iPhone's design and want to get my hands on one to test it out. My main concerns are: First, the monthly price for a decent voice + data plan. I heard an estimation of 2k will be spent by iphone users for the service over the 2 year contract with AT&T. I haven't done the math myself, though. And the second is speed of the web connection. What's the point of having youtube enabled on the phone if it's only marginally faster than dial up. Whoever has this phone already, let me know what you think about the net speeds. I know it'll be different from city to city, though. I'm in L.A. We should have a strong network here.

The lowest priced plan for an iPhone is $60 a month. That includes 450 anytime minutes, 5000 night and weekend minutes, unlimited data and email access, visual voicemail, 200 text messages, and unlimited calls to other at&t cell phones. From there you just pay more for more anytime minutes.

When you add all that up, it's actually a heckova deal. Usually you get the basic calling plan for $40 a month, and unlimited data costs an extra $30. Then add in the 200 text messages (probably like $4 a month) and the visual voicemail, and iPhone users are actually getting a deal.

Of course, they have no choice but to start at $60, and the data is only for EDGE, but still.

I tried youtube over a wifi connection, and it worked fine. It wont work over EGDE, as the data speeds simply aren't fast enough (though there have been recent bursts up to 200kbps).

Even with the slow data speeds, the iPhone is still pretty darn slick. And many of the problems it has now could very well be fixed with software updates (like no MMS, instant messaging, flash support, etc.).

I don't understand why anyone needs all that garbage in their lives. Access to youtube anywhere? Who the **** needs or even wants that?

I don’t know; I sort of understand Larry's thinking. I mean, I leave my house to get away from my TV, DVD player, CD player, radio, computer, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. So why would I would I want to pay some obnoxious fee to carry it all around with me.

Millions of people. Tens of millions of people.

Actually, I could see mobile YouTube (the one the iPhone has right now is actually kind of crippled) as being a great thing. Say you're with a friend, and nowhere near a computer, and you'd like to show them the short film you just completed (and uploaded to YouTube). That'd be cool. Admittedly, it's fluff, and people really shouldn't be sitting around watching YouTube on there phone...but if you had the itch, it's there.

I think the allure of the iPhone is that it is the first truly capable MP3/phone/internet convergence device. So many other phones have tried to incorporate an MP3 player, but none has ever done so to the point of having an iPod (or Zune, or Creative Zen, or whatever) quality player. The iPhone is, quite honestly, one of the best MP3 players to date (save for the small memory capacity - 8 gigs is enough for most, but definately not me). And the internet is just cool.

I'm waiting a bit to get one, but for someone like me, living in New York City, and constantly away from my apartment, it is revolutionary. Suddenly, I have a portable convenient device to access my email, search local google maps, store videos and photos and music. It does everything I'd normally need to be tethered to a computer for, and frees me up to travel lightly and quickly.

I knew someone would bring this point up. How ****ing urgent could that be? And where are you not near a computer nowadays? Computers are ****ing everywhere possible, and something like the iPhone is a major vanity device. And if you aren't near a computer, like in the woods maybe, then just be like "oh well, Ill show you later". The end. Little computers dont belong on camping trips.

And hasn't **** like the iPhone been out already? Like sidekicks and hiptops and motorolla bull****? I really hate Apple so much.

I just think it's so arrogant and rude to criticize other people's tastes and purchasing decisions. If you don't like it and don't see the need, then just go about your business and let everyone else go about theirs.

And Larry, I have news for you. You don't know me. You don't know what my needs are, and you don't know what makes my life easier. So please don't presume to.

I'm happy that you have an opinion.

But there are people who see great convenience in worth in that company, and arguing with them won't cause them to budge an inch.

Uh...are we still talking about an electronic gadget or did I miss the part where we transitioned into war, or the death penalty or abortion or something?
