Universal Fire

I would like to express my grief toward the Universal backlot fires that are going on at this moment. I heard that a sound stage has been destroyed and some lots. A few rides have caught on fire as well. this makes me very depressed because the heritage of Universal is threatened. I can only hope the fire doesn't spread.

They're only material objects. Thankfully no lives were lost. Everything else can be rebuilt and replaced.

The 40,000 film/video archive has a duplicate in another location. None of them were the masters. So nothing was truly lost.

It does suck that it happened though.

I agree, they're only material. I'm pretty sure though that none of the soundstages were damaged, and I don't believe the fire spread to the parks.

The biggest loss, IMO, is the Back To The Future set being destroyed. The NYC streets will be rebuilt, but I don't think they'll work on the BTTF stuff just so they can have it as part of the backlot tour. Unlike the film reels (that have duplicates elsewhere), that set is a bit of cinematic history that is now gone forever.

I was lucky to have seen the BTTF set when I was 9. I was hoping to see it again someday but I guess I should be happy with the memory I have.
